In the mMO* Palia, the majority of written matter (on signs,
posters, etc.) uses an alphabet or symbol system that is most
commonly referred to as the Majiri alphabet. The writing in this
alphabet is simply in English (for example, the fast-travel boards
bear the idiomatic English legend "LETS GO" (sic)), but with each of the letters of the Roman alphabet
substituted by a Majiri symbol.
This tool presents the user with an ortholinear keyboard in
QWERTY format, whose keys, by default,
display the Majiri symbols (where they are known). When they are clicked, the
equivalent Roman-alphabet letters are added to the virtual screen.
You can also toggle both the screen font and the keyboard font
between Majiri and Roman.
The deciphering of the Majiri alphabet was done by a bunch of people in the
palia-lore channel
of the Palia Discord server.
The Majiri font used, Majiri-Regular.woff,
was converted from the font Majiri-Regular.ttf,
which was created by user InkkSUNA (inkksuna) on the
Palia Discord server.
A second writing system is also used in Palia: this is typically
seen in stone engravings, and is assumed to be an older "language"
than that used in the signs and posters seen around Palia. Attempts
are also being made in the palia-lore channel to decipher the second
writing system, but that is currently beyond the scope of this tool.
